Beautiful, traditional cortijo situated in the Axarquia.

This cortijo has been lovingly restored over the past eleven years by the present owners. It is set in a green and secluded  valley overlooking spectacular scenery. The property is near the confluence of two rivers which run all year round, consequently the valley has an unusually diverse range of plants and trees providing greenery throughout the year, which is rare in inland Andalucia. The house has been used as the owners’ main residence but would also be suitable for a holiday home.  Although secluded, the property is not isolated and access is easy in all seasons.  The nearest village is only five minutes away with the larger village of Periana  fifteen minutes away by car.  The property benefits from agricultural water for the cultivation of  the garden, vegetables and the orchard and olive trees.  Mains electricity and water are supplied to the house. There is wireless broadband internet, satellite television and a telephone connected. 

The accommodation is divided between the main house and a self-contained one bedroomed cottage which is suitable for family, guests or a holiday let. There are also additional buildings around the patio housing a utility room and an outdoor kitchen with a large bread oven.

The main house, which is on several levels, consists of a large kitchen with traditionally built cupboards, gas cooker and double sink.  There is room for a table and chairs although much of the year you can eat outside on the patio. The Snug has a wood burner and large bookcases. Going down a few stairs brings you into the dining room, which is large enough for a table to seat eight people.  The large living room has a beamed ceiling, a traditional fireplace with a wood burning stove and recessed shelving. French doors open on to a terrace at the front of the property overlooking the pool and the wider landscape. There is also a third double bedroom and family bathroom with four piece suite.  Upstairs there are two other bedrooms accessed from separate staircases which make them both very private. The master bedroom is en suite and with built in wardrobes.

The cottage has a large double bedroom with wonderful views over the valley; landing with a built in wardrobe and cupboard housing the immersion heater.  The bathroom is partly tiled and has a shower over the bath. Downstairs is a kitchen and pretty living room which opens to the front of the house and has splendid views over the pool terraces and the landscape beyond.

Outside there is approximately ten and a half thousand square meters of land consisting of garden, terraces, orchard and olive groves. There are a range of fruit trees including apricot, almond, pear, apple, plum, loquat, peach and vines as well as many old olive trees. The land has been sympathetically managed in order to encourage wild life and is now a haven for many birds, butterflies and other animals as well as having an enormous array of wild flowers.

The Pool, which measures seven by four meters, is tiled and lies immediately in front of the house set within a luxuriant terraced garden. Wide steps lead down from the front of the house onto the pool terrace.  There is an area for a large table and a barbeque and panoramic views. Around the property are a range of terraces, patios and garden areas which provide plenty of space for relaxation and privacy.

Malaga airport is about fifty minutes away and Granada airport only just over an hour and it is just over half an hour to the coast.

There are many walks directly from the house and for lovers of nature and wildlife the surroundings offer opportunities for bird watching and natural history.
